Selection Checklist

Key questions to answer before specifying an epoxy system.

UV Exposure

Epoxy yellows and chalks under prolonged UV. If the floor sees sunlight, pair it with a UV stable topcoat or consider an alternative chemistry.

Chemical Exposure

Identify what chemicals the floor will contact. Epoxy handles most mild acids and solvents, but aggressive chemicals may require a novolac or vinyl ester system.

Downtime Tolerance

Epoxy systems typically require longer cure times than polyaspartics or MMA. Plan for adequate shutdown windows during installation.

Moisture Risk

Test for moisture vapor transmission before coating. High MVT levels can cause delamination a moisture mitigation system may be needed first.

Slip Resistance

Smooth epoxy topcoats can be slippery when wet. Specify an anti slip aggregate or textured finish for areas where traction is critical.
